Jadon Sancho And Jesse Lingard Dropped From England Squad Due To Lack Of Action

Jadon Sancho could miss a second game in a row for Manchester United after interim manager Ralf Rangnick revealed that the £73million signing is still coming to terms with a family bereavement.

Sancho missed Wednesday’s win at Brentford to attend a funeral, and Rangnick confirmed that the England winger did not train on Thursday either.

Sancho is due to train on Friday ahead of United’s game with West Ham at Old Trafford, but Rangnick will wait to make a decision on his availability.

‘He didn't train yesterday because he still asked us to not train,’ said the United boss. ‘He attended a funeral on Wednesday, and it still affected him quite a lot.

‘He is expected back to training this afternoon at three o'clock, but right now I'm not sure if he will be available for the game tomorrow.

‘It was an important member of the family, somebody he was close to all his life. I have to wait and see. I will speak to him before training and after training and take the decision.’

Rangnick also admitted that Jesse Lingard’s future at United is up in the air after Newcastle attempted to take the England midfielder on loan until the end of the season when his contract at Old Trafford expires.

Rangnick added: ‘It's normal that Newcastle for instance show an interest in him, but I am not the one dealing with that.

'If you ask me now what will happen in the next 10 days, I cannot answer that question, I'm afraid.

‘It’s also a question of what the player wants. What other options does he have?

'Does he have the chance to get more game time there? I cannot answer for him.

‘He’s a very good player, a technical player. He can play at many Premier League clubs on a regular basis, but here at Manchester United it's not so easy.

'We have other players who can play in that position and we cannot change five or six positions from one game to another.

‘I know his contract is expiring in the summer. The question is, what does he want to do?

'I wouldn't be unhappy if he stayed until the rest of the season because he is a player who can always play and I know the level.’
