Christian Eriksen News

Italian officials want Eriksen to have a clean bill of health before he is allowed back to the SERIE A again

  • Eriksen suffered cardiac arrest in June during Denmark’s Euro 2020 clash with Finland

  • The 29-year old has since been fitted with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) to monitor his heart rate

This is according to the chief Italian medic, who says there is a huge risk if the 29-year old is allowed back onto the football pitch again.

As TUKO.co.ke reported, Eriksen underwent surgery and was fitted with an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) after collapsing on the pitch during Denmark vs Finland at Euro 2020.

Despite making a remarkable recovery, Eriksen is currently not eligible to play in the Serie A.

According to The Atletic, Serie A officials want the Denmark international to be completely free of any health concerns before being allowed back onto the football pitch.

This would entail being free from the ICD device, which is primarily meant to control a condition known as arrhythmia.

Arrhythmia is a condition where the heartbeat pattern is not regular as the heart can end up beating too slowly or too fast, causing sudden death.

What was said by Italian officials

Italian FA’s technical-scientific committee Francesco Braconaro was quoted on radio saying this about Eriksen’s condition:

“Christian Eriksen cannot be given the all-clear to play in Italy. If the player has the defibrillator removed, therefore confirming the pathology can be resolved, then he can return to play for Inter.”

The fact that the midfielder was only in the hospital for six days means it is highly unlikely the ICD device will be removed anytime soon.

    Active players with ICD device

Former Manchester United defensive midfielder Daley Blind is a classic example of how a player can cope with his football career with the device still on hand.

Blind also has a heart condition and was fitted with the device, and he currently plays in the Dutch Eredevisie for Ajax.
